OUR CHAPTER HISTORY

The George Washington University’s Kappa Phi Lambda began as a dream – a vision of sisterhood which would be based on love and a common devotion to the goals of sisterhood, service, and cultural diversity.

Seven diverse young women, Steph *Sunset* Ng, Connie Kyoori *Soliloquy* Chung, Annie *Savvy* Chien, Alex *Urban* Giasi, Martha *Kaeda* Lee, Jane *Scheme* Kim, and Amy *Starburst** Okiebisu, from all different walks of life, found a similar affinity to the mission represented by Kappa Phi Lambda. They believed in making a difference through the sorority and wanted to leave a legacy of sisterhood which would promote cultural awareness and service in their community. Together they undertook the goal of bringing Kappa Phi Lambda to GWU, working as one and learning more about the sorority, each other, and themselves along the way. Throughout the process, they overcame hardships and hurdles, growing stronger as individuals and as a group. They pressed on in the face of difficulties, never giving up their belief in their ambition and pursuit of sisterhood.

On May 10th, 2008, their dream became reality as they crossed together into the sisterhood of Kappa Phi Lambda, chartering an associate chapter at the George Washington University. Their dedication and heart was manifested in their new bonds of sisterhood they found between themselves, as well as with thousands of sisters nationally. As the Alpha Beta Chapter continues to flourish and develop, the sisters hold on to their initial dream – of a united sorority that seeks to do good, starting from the inside and then out.

Where are we now?

The Alpha Beta Chapter at The George Washington University has become an active and committed part of the larger MGC community. We have received numerous awards for our efforts as an organization, including MGC Chapter of the Year, which we have received twice. Due to our devotion to academic endeavors, we have consistently been acknowledged for scholarship by the GWU community.

Leaving a Legacy

In the Spring of 2019 the Alpha Beta Chapter decided we were in a position where we were ready to spread the values of sisterhood, service, and cultural diversity on to a new campus. Accordingly, we took on the task of becoming the Hosting Entity for the Drexel University Colony of Kappa Phi Lambda. We crossed 10 CHAMPION CHARTERS who follow in the footsteps of the founding mothers and Alpha Beta's charters in igniting a spark for future passionate sisters on their campus. Their PEs are Jane *Eupheme* Lee and Alexis *Artifact** Simms.
